Exotic Beondegi @ Busan Jin Market, Busan

After completed training we stopped by at sijang or street market around Busan Jin. I’ll find myself for adventurous search of exotic Korean snack called Beondegi. It’s a stewed and seasoned silkworm pupae served by street vendors.  First time I ate this tiny creature in 2004 during football match in SuYeong, Busan.

Beondegi or Silkworm
Texture of SilkWorm
The smell of Beondegi kinda dirt-like but if you take it from a canned version it has a hot dog kind of aroma. Looks crunchy but it’s not…and the taste was quite memorable. The exterior texture is like a thin shrimp shell that you can easily chew. Inside was a little mushy with an extra fine grainy texture with taste like a mild protein taste of peanuts.
