Mee Rebus @ Pak Abu Kg Pasir Puteh

Yesterday, had a craving for Mee Bandung. I and my colleagues went to Tg. Langsat to devour ourselves with one of the best Mee Bandung that we ever taste..But bad luck,  shop closed , maybe one of our member not taking a bath this morning. That’s why no luck. So, turned back and decided to go to Kg Pasir Puteh and had lunch at one of the popular spot of Mee Rebus & Soto Ayam.

Pak Abu & His Wife

Luckily still have empty table, normally so damn crowded during the peak hour. This place already established more than 20 years. Don’t know exactly because never asked but already around since my school days. Should be long enough though.

So, we ordered Mee Rebus, Soto and Rojak Tauhu.

Mee Rebus
Translated into English, this dish means simply “boiled noodle”. It just a simple noodles. Very popular in Southern Peninsular especially in Johor. Don’t know exactly where it’s origin, but mostly known as a Malay cuisine. But it is actually example of fusion cuisine. The egg noodles, bean curd and dark soy sauce are Chinese touch, while the gravy, spices and herbs influences from Indian and Malay.

Everyone has their own favorite and Pak Abu’s Mee Rebus is favorite among the local. Simple look but got that distinctive taste compare to other famous Mee Rebus especially Hj. Wahid Mee Rebus. The yellow noodles and bean sprouts or taugeh are blanched just nice. The gravy not too thick and well worth a try. The gravy tasted sweetish and slight spicy and topped with fresh chillies,  one hardboiled egg, fried shallots, shredded  chicken pieces  and half fresh lime for you to squeeze out the juice for the extra kick. But this dish lack of fried fritters normally found from famous Mee Rebus. Overall  the taste is good, but still just above average. For health conscious, Mee Rebus carried around 555 calories.

Soto Ayam
Compared to Mee Rebus, I would prefer to eat Soto Ayam at this stall. From photo you can see it’s just plain dish. Lack of ingredients, don’t even have a bergedil and the Nasi Himpit or compressed rice is rough and hard.  Some people prefer noodle instead of Nasi Himpit. The secret only lies in the soup. The soup just not tastes like ordinary Soto. Try it then you will know. It tastes different yet nice.  But still far to compete with my mom’s Soto Ayam.

Rojak Tauhu
This is the side dish while eating Mee Rebus or Soto. Rojak Tauhu is made with deep fried tauhu and dressed with cucumber, bean sprout and full bodied drenched in chunky peanut sauce or sambal kacang. It is a mixture of sweet, spicy and savory flavors interspersed with many interesting textures. And we quite enjoyed it.
