Ayam Penyet @ Lina Dollah

Ayam Penyet or Smashed Chicken in English is one of the fantastic authentic Indonesian Food.  The taste of Ayam Penyet kept me remembered the nostalgic feeling when I ate my first Ayam Penyet about 4 years ago at Banafe, JB. The taste was so exquisite. Chicken pieces are fried to a crispy perfection before been smashed, and the superb highly spicy hot peri peri is a cannot-miss for spicy food lovers.

Nowadays, there are so many shops & stalls selling Ayam Penyet. So many variation and which one is the original? So popular, even have fast food restaurant called Ayam Penyet Ria in Indonesia, Already opened in KL at Sunway Pyramid last year but too far away, rather cross border to Singapore, way more convenient.

Today had a chance to have lunch at one of the popular kebayan spot at Taman Mawar (Hawker Centre) that sell Ayam Penyet.  We ordered Ayam Penyet and Air Katira

Soup & White Rice

This Ayam Penyet is a combination of smashed fried chicken , fried tempe, fried taufu, Cabbage, Slice Cucumber,  Long Bean, Daun Salam, half calamansi and belinjau crackers serve with hot boiled rice and soup. The chicken was fried with spices and was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and we mopped up every last bit of the chicken batter dripping. This came with a kickass sambal chillies.

The sambal is super hot sometimes so I just did a little baby dip into it. But nevertheless, it was still hot for me. Always scratching my head.  Surprisingly, my friend’s plate of sambal was wiped dry…

Overall it tastes good and went well with Air katira. A green color drink with katira, selasih like tadpole, malva nut or kembang semangkuk and small pieces of dates. The taste was really exquisite especially to cool down the spicy heat. Fuhhhh…

The price is reasonable about RM5 for Ayam Penyet and RM1.50 for Air Katira. So hurry, must go and try..
